Accessibility Statement
Last updated: November 1, 2026
We want everyone to be able to read the recipes on sapirbakes.com and bake from them comfortably, including people with disabilities. The site is operated from Israel and has been made accessible in accordance with the Israeli Equal Rights for Persons with Disabilities Law, 5758-1998, and regulation 35 of the Equal Rights for Persons with Disabilities (Service Accessibility Adjustments) Regulations, 5773-2013.
Accessibility level
The site follows Israeli Standard 5568 for web content accessibility at level AA, which is based on the W3C's WCAG guidelines.
How the site was checked
- The English site is built from the same code as our Hebrew site, sapirs.co.il, whose main pages were checked automatically with axe-core against WCAG levels A and AA.
- Keyboard navigation, text enlargement up to 200% and the accessibility menu were checked by hand.
- The checks were made in Chrome, on a computer and in a phone view.
What has been made accessible
- Pages have a clear heading structure, and their language and reading direction (English, left to right) are set for screen readers.
- A "Skip to content" link on every page: it appears at the top of the screen the first time you press Tab, and takes you straight to the page content without going through the menu.
- You can navigate the site with a keyboard, and the element in focus is clearly marked.
- There is sufficient color contrast between text and background.
- You can enlarge the text up to 200% without losing content and without scrolling sideways.
- Buttons and links shown only as an icon have a name that screen readers announce.
- You can tick off ingredients and steps in a recipe with the keyboard too, and screen readers announce whether an item is ticked.
- In step-by-step mode each step is shown in large text, the screen stays on, and you can move between steps with the arrow keys.
- The site respects the "reduce motion" system setting.
The accessibility menu
Every page has a blue accessibility button in the corner of the screen. The menu was built especially for this site, and lets you turn on:
- Text size: make the text larger or smaller, up to 200%.
- Colors and contrast: high contrast, a dark background or grayscale.
- Reading: a readable font, wider line and letter spacing, left-aligned text and a reading guide that follows the mouse pointer.
- Highlights: highlighted links, highlighted headings and a strong outline around the element in focus when navigating by keyboard.
- Motion and images: stop animations, hide images and a large mouse cursor.
- Page outline: a list of the headings on the page, from which you can jump straight to any section.
Your settings are saved on your device and stay on as you move between pages. You can reset them at any time. The menu is an extra aid and does not replace the accessibility of the site itself.
Known limitations
Despite our efforts, some parts of the site may not yet be fully accessible:
- Photos in the recipes have a general text description (the recipe name), not a detailed description of what each photo shows.
- Some recipes embed videos from an outside service, which may not have captions and whose accessibility we don't fully control. The steps themselves are written out in the recipe.
- Links to social networks (Instagram, TikTok and Facebook) lead to outside sites, whose accessibility is the responsibility of their operators.
We keep improving the site's accessibility on an ongoing basis.
